Miami legend Dwyane Wade has responded to ex-wife Siobhan Funches-Wade`s claim that he is trying to profit from changing the name and gender of their transgender son.


Since this is supposed to be a new way of raising children, I feel like I have to respond to these accusations and it`s a damn shame.


Now I am on the most important journey of my life to our homeland, Africa. I received a message on social media about forcing our 15 year old daughter to be someone she is not and do things against her will. These are serious and harmful allegations that have hurt our children.


While none of us are surprised by Siobhan`s attempt to fight Zaya`s personality and drag my name through the mud, I am very disappointed that she constantly finds ways to focus on herself and her needs without paying attention to the children.


She had not sought to be involved in her children`s lives for over ten years. Zaya is not the same three-year-old child anymore, and she shouts it to the whole world, but most importantly to her mother! No one in our house would ever force Zaya or any of our children to do anything against their will, let alone force their identity on them.


This is not a game forecast by basketball rules for my family and certainly not for Zaya. This is her life, " Wade said.


In August, Wade filed a formal petition in Los Angeles Superior Court to legally change his son`s name from Zion Malakai Airamis Wade to Zaya Malakai Airamis Wade. On Tuesday, the basketball player`s ex-wife Siobhan Funches-Wade, to whom he was married from 2002 to 2010, said in court that she objects to her ex-husband`s demands.
